Shindig!

Last night was Shindig! For those of you unfamiliar to our area, Shindig is the musical extravaganza, final choir concert of the year that Julia's high school puts on each year. It is full of lively music, humor, bright costumes, and choreography. They usually only have about 2-3 weeks to put it all together and it always surprises me what they are able to accomplish in that time. Shindig is one of the many reasons that the choir kids love their teacher, Ms. Nickles. It is fun for the students and the audience alike.

Last nights musical selections came from a variety of sources with musical sets including songs from Hairspray, Sweeney Todd, Pirates and Princesses. What fun!

Here are a few (not so great due to the distance from the stage and the lighting) pics that show some of the fun of the night.

These two shots are from the Disney Princesses songs. They brought beautiful little princesses up from the audience, too. So cute!

This pic was from a tribute song that the Chamber Choir sang to their teacher and accompaniest.

These were from their pirate songs. So fun!

And these were from the Sweeney Todd songs.

This final picture is of Julia singing a special song that she dedicated to me. It is a Carrie Underwood song entitled "Don't Forget to Remember Me" and is a song about an 18 yr. old girl who is saying good-bye to her parents as she is loading up the car to leave for college. Julia and I cried all through it when Carrie Underwood sang it at CMA Fest last summer and she decided then that she wanted to sing it at Shindig. But, I didn't know that she had actually gone ahead with her plans. This was the final song of the evening and all the seniors were gathered on stage for a special tribute. Their teacher had prepared a slide show that featured each senior as a baby and as they are now, telling what their plans are for the future. The slide show was playing in the background, with Julia sitting on the edge of the stage singing. I don't know how she made it through without falling apart. I know I didn't. Thanks Jules! We love you and will miss you when the summer is over and you get in the car to head up to school.

I told Mom it must have been emotional - because I cried just reading the account of the tribute song! I LOVE that you did that Julia, and I wish like crazy that we could have been there to cry our eyes out as you sang that song. I can't believe what a talented and amazing person you have become - we love you!

Looks like a really fun night! I took (maybe drug would be a better term) Justin to Beauty and the Beast put on by the high school choir for date night a few weeks ago. It was amazing the talent, and so interesting to watch the youth and wander what they were going to become, and where they would be, and who would continue the love of music.

Sounds like a beautiful and special evening! Congrats on all the special and fun songs Julia. We love you all. Love Alicia

WOW - There was a song like that popular when Alicia was graduating and there class had a big fight over whether they should sing it at graduation or not.

I can never make it thru sad songs like that - GOOD JOB Julia for doing such a sweet thing and doing a good job of it. I'm with Joanna, i want to cry just thinking about it. Love you guys, Charlotte

well, now I look like a hillbilly. I do know the difference between their and there and they're. I think I meant "their" class had a fight.

Shindig looks like SO much fun.

We wish we could have been there. I think your last song of the night was probably so emotional that I'm kind of glad I wasn't there, I would have lost it.

Graduation is so close, I can smell it!
