Devil's Gate and Martin's Cove

The next day of our trip was almost all driving. We covered most of Wyoming that day...because we had a plane to catch the next morning in SLC. We didn't make many stops that day, but did stop for a bit at the Mormon Handcart Site at Martin's Cove. This site was part of the Oregon Trail, the California Trail and the Mormon trail. It was here that a couple of handcart companies that had gotten too late of a start ended up being rescued and helped into the Salt Lake Valley. We toured the site and watched a very moving video. It was touching to see one of our Webb ancestors listed among the rescuers.

I can barely look at the pictures without crying - I think I would be an emotional mess if i made this visit and i don't know of any of my family that was involved in the tragedy or the rescue. it was just such a horrific, yet magnificent sacrifice to make to show your dedication to your god. Very brave and special people.
