I need a break, so...

I need a break from my studies, so I thought I'd take a few minutes to post just a few pictures from our wonderful trip to Italy and Switzerland. But, before I do so, I just want to report that I got an A on my Ancient Civilizations mid-term. Yay! I am now studying night and day to try to get the course completed in the next two weeks. So much to study, so little time. I so regret that I have procastinated to the point that it is now sort of an emergency. I'm trying to complain and worry less and just apply myself and get it done.

The trip was absolutely wonderful and we are enjoying the memories of it as we settle back into our normal daily life and activities. We saw and did SO much in the two weeks we were there--more than seems humanly possible. It was almost more than one could take into ones heart and soul in such a relatively short time period. Our hearts were saturated with beauty...both natural and man-made. Ahhhhh! Memories to last a life-time.

It was wonderful to share time and experiences with Rob and Becky and with Scott's dear friend, Giovanni, and his sweet mother, Rosalie. And to have the opportunity to share much of it with Papa Rhien who accompanied us over there.

We traveled to Rome (via Albuquerque and Chicago) on Saturday, April 8, arriving in Rome on the morning of Sunday the 9th. We cleaned up and rested at the mission home (a beautiful villa built in the early 1920's for Mussolini's niece, if I remember right) for part of the day, as Rob and Becky were in Florence for a conference. They joined us that evening and the next day we all headed out for a few days together. Rob was tied up during the day most days, interviewing his missionaries, etc....and would join us in the evenings.

Our first day was spent in Florence, visiting the Duomo, climbing the 400+ steps in the tower next to the Duomo (where you could see out over all of Florence), visiting the beautiful Ponte Vecchio--the oldest bridge in Florence, built around 1345 and the Baptistry near the Duomo. We also spent some time at some beautiful gardens near a palace that was in the vicinity of Ponte Vecchio. So many beautiful sights to fill the soul. It was almost more than a person could take in at one time.

I will continue to post more pictures and journaling in the next several days, so stay tuned. The pictures above are of Florence, the Duomo and Ponte Vecchio. Enjoy!
More to come.
