Day 2

The second day of our trip took us to Pisa and beyond. Rob had interviews again, so we split up for part of the day. We enjoyed a sunny and beautiful morning in Pisa, enjoying the Leaning Tower and the Cathedral and baptistry. From there Becky took us down to where the Arno met the ocean and then on down to the beach. The water was such a brilliant blue/green. It was windy, but refreshing. From there we went to the quaint little town of Lucca--the old part of the city was surrounded by an ancient wall, with trees growing on it and paths wandering through it. We walked the paths for awhile and then dropped down into the city. Ahhhhh! So beautiful. We stopped and got some yummies to eat and headed on down to the circular piazza in the center of the village. What a beautiful afternoon! We met back up with Rob and traveled through the Tuscan countryside as we headed to the city of Carrara to see the amazing marble mines--the mountains in that area were so filled with marble that it looked like they were snow covered. The mine that they had hoped to visit did not start tours until May, so we missed out on that, but we visited a museum/store that showed pictures and gave us an idea of the process. We ended the day back where we had stayed the night before, ending with a great Italian meal and wonderful company. Another great day.

The pictures are of Pisa, Becky where the Arno enters the sea,the beach, the plaza at Lucca and the marble mines. More to come...
