Later that afternoon we arrived in the city and found our way (without too much difficulty, luckily) to our hotel, which was just a couple of blocks from Fisherman's Wharf and the famous Lombard Street windy road. We were on the 9th floor of the hotel, with a beautiful view of the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay. We settled in and then adventured out into the city, heading first down to the wharf. It was bustling with people and lots of fun. We shopped, looked around, had a yummy dinner and eventually took a cable car back up the hill towards our hotel. Tired, but content.
The next morning we were up bright and early and headed off on a sightseeing tour bus that took us all over the city. Some of the highlights included the mission, the architecture, Chinatown, Twin Peaks (with a beautiful panoramic view of the whole area), the Japanese Gardens at Golden Gate Park, and much, much more. They packed a lot into our 3.5 hour tour. It ended at Fisherman's Wharf so we had another yummy meal at the Boudin Sourdough Bread place and then walked down to Pier 39 where we looked through a few shops and enjoyed the seals and sea lions out on the pier. The weather was absolutely gorgeous for our entire stay in the city. Lots of sunshine and perfect temperatures. Ahhh!
Later in the afternoon we drove out to Oakland and walked around the temple grounds before heading over to Berkley to meet Sandra and Susan for dinner at one of their favorite little restaurants. It was great fun seeing them and visiting and catching up. They have had a crazily busy couple of weeks filled with work, jury duty, car repairs, yearly budget meetings, etc...and they were busy getting ready for their trip to Hawaii next week, so we really appreciated the time they shared with us. Thanks, guys!

The next morning we drove around to a few more sights (like Coit Tower) and then that afternoon we met Sandra in Marin County and went to the Muir Redwood Forest. Ahhhh! So peaceful, majestic and inspiring. I don't know which I enjoyed more--the massive redwood trees towering over us, or the dainty, beautiful tiny wild flowers and plants at our feet. It was such a switch from the hustle and bustle of the city. From there we headed out to Richmond for a wonderful dinner Sandra prepared for us...thanks for the extra effort to make it vegetarian. :) It was great to see the beautiful changes they had made to their home since my last visit many years ago. I will post some pictures of their living room in my next post. This one has gone on long enough. :)
But here is a silly one of Sandra
One of the two of us...
