Well, my post for the day is about gratitude. I had just finished my lunch today when they phone rang. It was a stranger. He told me who he was and then asked me to hold for a minute...and he handed the phone to Julia. It was the call that every parent dreads. There was a short pause and then I heard her say, "Mom, I have been in an accident and my car is REALLY damaged." I determined where she was and jumped in the car and headed down that way. The whole way down I told myself to stay calm. That she would need me to stay calm for her. But, as I pulled up on the accident scene and saw the car I could hardly believe my eyes and had a difficult time holding back my emotion. She was hit broadside on the passenger side (luckily it was not the driver's side and no one was in the car with her)with such force that it spun the car completely around so that she was facing the other direction. The destruction was pretty unbelievable. And that is where the gratitude comes in. How grateful I am that her life was spared. How grateful I am that she was wearing her seatbelt. The impact was great enough that the keys flew out of the ignition and couldn't be found for some time. The policemen later told Scott that if she had not been wearing her seatbelt she could have been critically hurt, or perhaps killed. But, she wasn't....and for that I am SO GRATEFUL!
We spent the afternoon waiting in the hospital emergency room--what a crazy place. They finally saw her at about 4:30 and did some x-rays of her back. She checked out OK, but they said she will probably be pretty sore by tomorrow morning. But, again, as we think of what might have been...I AM SO GRATEFUL!
The pictures don't do it all justice. It looks more dramatic in real life. But, you can get a glimpse into why I am SO GRATEFUL.

OKAY Julia, we talked it over at dinner and your life can't be a country song unless you were 1. driving a pick-up truck that got hit by a train and 2.yo' mama is doin' time down at the state pen..... so you've got a ways to go. :) We love you so much and we are so glad you were wearing your seat belt and you weren't totally damaged yourself. TAKE CARE. Love, Aunt Charlotte
YUCKY! We are sad that LaFawnDuh is gone, but glad that you are not. We love you and hope that life isn't too inconvenient for y'all over the next while.
Love, Paul
Well, at least you got the first big car wreck out of the way early, Julia. None of the others seem quite as traumatic or scary, somehow, as that first one. . .
I'm glad you were wearing your seatbelt and are recovering.
Love to you, Sandra
So glad that you are ok! I was so scared when mom called and said, "I just thought you'd want to tell your little sister that you love her, she's been in a pretty serious accident". My heart just stopped and I was so scared! I'm so glad that you are alright, and want you to know that we're all grateful for you!
Love you little sis!
Joanna
