Erice--the city in the clouds

This is installment 2 of our trip to Sicily to visit Giovanni and his dear mother. From Segesta we traveled to Erice, a city atop Mt. San Giuliano, 2,300 feet above Trapani. Again, such beauty! Its narrow, winding cobblestone streets were shrouded in clouds and fog--an eerie, but peaceful beauty. One almost had the feeling of walking through the streets of heaven. Erice has always been considered a sacred city. We very much enjoyed visiting the Matrice church, built in the 14th century. The ceiling inside the cathedral was stunning! We enjoyed a nice meal with Giovanni and Rosalie and as we left the city the clouds were lifting and the view was beautiful.
