Hope

Ok...before I get officially kicked out of the blogging world, I decided I had better post something new. Three weeks is a ridiculous time to go between posts. I have noticed a pattern in my life. For some reason, I seem to sort of retreat from the rest of the world in January. I think that part of it is the weather. Part of it is the post-Christmas let-down. But, on the other hand, part of it is more positive in nature. It is a time of reflection for me. A time to review where I'm at and where I want to be. I frequently find that I am not as far along at something as I'd like to be...be it weight loss, self improvement, a class I'm taking, or whatever.

So, I pull inward a bit and reassess and set some goals and do my best to avoid outside distractions that would deter me from getting a good start on the new me. So...that's where I have been. Reflecting. Recharging. And working hard (finally) on my BYU class.

One thing I have been reflecting on is HOPE. With the economic crisis and all that goes with that, I see more and more people getting scared. Aren't we all at least a little scared? But, I also see a need for something to keep us hanging on. HOPE. There it is again. HOPE. Just 4 little letters, but so powerful and motivational and well, HOPEFUL! Don't give up on it. I have decided to post a thought a day about HOPE for the next week. Or until I run out of quotes.

So, here is today HOPE quote of the day and it comes from Pope John XXIII:

"Consult not your fears but your HOPES and dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with what you tried and failed in, but with what is still possible for you to do."

So, today, stop and count a blessing or two and hang in there and have a little HOPE. If you have a minute or two, take some time to post a comment and tell me something that gave you HOPE recently.

Here's something that brings me HOPE...aren't they beautiful?

I've been searching for Joy (instead of Hope). The things I've found joy in lately are a little different, but they still are in the same vein.

I found joy this week when:

-Lucy really caught on to how to wave goodbye, and even said, Ba-Ba (Bye Bye). To me.

-I had a stoplight race with a yellow lamborgini (spelled incorrectly), and I won! They didn't know we were racing, but that was irrelevant.

-telling impromptu nightly stories about animals with rhyming names - Zippo the incredibly fast Hippo, Baff the 1 foot tall Giraffe, Ryan the purple Lion, Jake the lonely Snake, etc.

-Painting

-My wife's determination to have peace and optimism in our home and our lives.

-Hugs from my girls

-compliments on my design work

-Prayers and scripture reading.

The days are getting longer
More and more people are focusing on what really matters to them--love, family, joy, hope, the little pleasures
Growing plants
The way love grows and grows when its watered, even a little
A new beginning for our country
