**UPDATE**
After an investigation by the Farmington Fire Dept. and the FBI, they decided that they don't think that there was an accelerant used in the fire. Just thought I should clarify that. The FBI determined that they also do not think that it was a hate crime directed specifically at the church or the seminary. The Fire Chief estimated that about $75,000 worth of damage was done to the building. But, it could have been SO much worse.
Also, I guess that it was unclear to people who are not familiar with Farmington--this was not at Julia's school, or her seminary building. It is the seminary building that Scott, Jed and Paul all went to, but Julia goes to a different school than they did. It still affects many of her friends from the Stake, but does not affect her directly.***
The Farmington High School seminary building (not the building that I teach in this year) was set on fire this evening. The main classroom was completely destroyed. And the rest of the building suffered considerable smoke and water damage. They believe that gasoline was used as an accelerant. It seems to have started in the scripture cabinets. How sad for the kids...to not only lose their classroom, but also their scriptures. That building is like a home to the kids at Farmington High. They worship there, play there, eat lunch there, hang out there. My heart goes out to them.
Julia heard that it was on fire, but we didn't know if it was true, so we drove down to the high school. The high school parking lot parallels the seminary building. A lot of church members were down there. The fire was out at that point. The stake leaders and seminary teachers were talking with the firemen. Sad stuff. The firefighters say that there have been some other church fires in recent weeks.
The sad thing is that someone broke into the same building on Christmas day and majorly vandalized it. They stole all of the audio/visual equipment, computers, etc. and destroyed LOTS of other things. Now this. They don't, at this point think that it was the same people. Anyway, pretty sad, huh?

That is SO sad! I am really sad for all the students- this is really a horrible thing. I hope they catch the people who started it. I am seriously upset by this- how could people be so horrible as to purposefully do something so wrong?
We love you guys, and are saddened by this news.
